[Canon] Ed Edd n Eddy
[Point in time taken from canon] A few days after the grand finale movie
[Background]
The details seem a bit scattered, but, to put it together, what is known about Edd is that he is an only child who lives with two somewhat controlling yet ultimately loving parents, despite popular belief. Some years ago as a toddler, Edd met Ed and Eddy at kindergarten when they tried to scam him almost immediately. Despite this, the friendship started right then and there for years to come. This would seem to imply that Edd was not born in Peach Creek (he had just transferred in). And even at an early age, his parents were raising him to be an upfront, upstanding young man who will always follow the rules.
Also at some time, an incident even before his toddler days happened where he now covers his head with a hat of some sort. It likely isn’t related to the “dodgeball incident” he once brought up.
As of the events of the movie, Edd has truly come to understand Ed, and Eddy more specifically. When once it was a back and forth, love and hate relationship, it would now seem that Edd now knows the good that was in Eddy all along, as do all of their friends.
[Personality]
Eddward is, first and foremost, a thinker. As the smartest of a trio of boys of comparable age, Edd or "Double D" as he is always referred to as, was the brains behind their zany schemes. While Ed would be the muscle and Eddy would be the planner, Double D would always be the one to construct the machines or doohickies that would be the cornerstone of their scam's plot. A bad luck streak usually tore that to a smoldering crater of failure. And then time again, Edd would pick himself up and then do it again. A determined youth to continue, perhaps, but it's more complicated than that.
Edd's relationship with his two companions is an interesting one. While there is no doubt that Eddward often has severe misgivings about going along with his cohorts' plans, he can hardly be seen away from their side for very long. Whether it's about scamming the other kids out of their money for jawbreakers or going about their days just hanging out, Eddward retains a more than amicable friendship with the other two. The zany antics of his fellows hardly do anything to really drive Edd away unless they go too far (which takes some doing and even then Edd will find his way back at their side in no time at all.
His friendship with the other Eds goes as far back as when they were very little. Like about every other day of their life it started with a hello and then ended with a bang. Yet through this, Edd decided to become Ed and Eddy's friend even though they tried to scam him. When it's time for another scam, Edd reluctantly agrees to help. When something else is afoot, he teams up with Ed and Eddy to either solve what's going on or find some way across the obstacle currently in their way. At a particular moment when Ed was feeling very unpredictable and angry, Edd did his very best to find the cause of the problem and cheer his friend up.
Sometimes, however, this friendship is sourly tested. Most scams often end quite badly for all three involved, either by design or some intrusion on someone's part. The inevitable end almost always includes one or all three of the Eds being injured and Eddy will always end up blaming one of his two friends. Edd usually rebuffs these accusations and make some sort of remark only for this process to continue for the next scam. When things get really bad, Eddy will even leave his friend in the dust to soak up all the punishment or responsibility, as exemplified by the one time where Eddy left Ed and Edd to be stampeded by chickens in order to make it to the candy store on time. This animosity towards their constant failures is geared more towards the more insidious Eddy rather than dimwitted yet kind Ed. Edd later on became less subservient and more sarcastic towards Eddy once the failures began to really pile up.
Edd: "I've followed all the rules! Lived a life of decency and principle! So why didn't I trust my instincts that one day these short-sighted, sophomoric show games would GO TOO FAR!?"
Edd's nature is one of a studious and erudite learner. When not conspiring with Eddy on his latest money making scheme, Edd can be found in his room working on some personal project or studying chemistry and biology from books he has gotten from the library. Test tubes, microscopes and other sorts of science related equipment decorate his room in a timely and very orderly fashion and each get their own turn with Edd whenever he becomes interested in a subject. Throughout the run, Edd is almost never seen to have any ulterior motives with which to utilize scientific know-how (beyond the scams themselves, but those are more engineering based) and seems to genuinely enjoy learning for its own sake. Ed and Eddy will very infrequently aid Edd with some experiment he has planned, but those seem to never pan out well either by Eddy's impatience or Ed's dunderheadedness.
Edd: "Listen to the sound of the gears whirling and grinding!"
Eddy: "Yeah, like my stomach."
As the son of a pair of strict yet loving parents, Eddward possesses a relatively high moral standard, perhaps the highest in all of the cul-de-sac where he lives. Described as "unnaturally polite" seems like the perfect statement for Edd, for whom it would appear that his upbringing most likely had a very big hand in shaping him this way. Even in the face of danger or indignity, Double D tries his hardest to keep his wording pertinent and in keeping with proper manners, even when it costs him dearly. When it was time to face down with Eddy's even more unlikable older brother, Eddward politely (yet aggressively) berated the older sibling for his irresponsibility. And even with the cul-de-sac's low opinion of the Eds, all of the other kids don't seem to mind Edd all that much when he's by himself, which can't be said about the other two Edwards.
Despite being overly polite at times, Edd still retains a dark side from being belittled even despite his intelligence and kindness all the time. While it doesn't crop up often, Eddward often takes out his frustrations on either himself or Eddy in the form of a stealthy insult or outright sarcasm. As much as he considers them his friends, Edd has his share of immense animosity towards them. While too well-mannered and sensible to plan small attacks of vengeance (barring one small incident), Edd nonetheless tries to inconvenience Eddy at times if something about the scam irks him off enough. He also seems to know more about people than he lets on, such as the time where Double D was dared to be Ed, particularly about their flaws.
Eddy (pretending to be Edd): "Hey Ed, let's make faces behind Eddy's back!"
Edd (pretending to be Ed): "Like we always do?"
Eddy (in his normal voice): "AH HA! I knew it!"
Edd (in his normal voice): "You're so gullible, Eddy."
This came to a climax in their adventure to Eddy's brother's house, where Ed and Eddy's twisted shenanigans finally caused Eddward to leave them behind and return home despite the threat of violence that that would involve. Eddy managed to convince him otherwise with a true show of friendship that won Edd back onto the trail to their shared goal. And then when Eddy opened himself up to Edd for perhaps the first time they've known each other, Edd finds himself more than ready to forgive him.
Despite being kind and polite, Edd still retains some rather odd habits that are somewhat unbefitting a young man barely in junior high. For one thing, everything inside Double D's room is properly labeled with a white tape and black lettering. The bed reads "bed" while the ant farm is labeled as "ant farm" etc. and yet this is never really questioned by anyone who is aware of this fact. The one time it's remarked upon (by Eddy), it is during their trip to Eddy's brothers house and they are far from home while Edd begins labeling the surrounding rocks and gravel. This is because it "feels more accommodating", according to Double D.
Other than bottled up anger issues, Eddward is also what people would call a "neat freak". While organization is one thing, it's entirely another when it comes to cleanliness. To Double D, everything needs to be straight, neat, and best of all, free of bacteria, mold and even minor scuffs. When in the presence of foul or dirty things that have a pungent odor, Edd makes it his duty to alleviate such an issue by dissolving said object with soap suds until it is better. Since Ed lacks any sense of personal hygiene, this is a constant issue with Edd. So obsessed with cleanliness is he in that, at one point nearly completely devoid of cleaning utensils and soap, Double D went into a temporary nervous breakdown.
Edd: "Filthy, filthy, filthy..."
Being skinny and weak, Edd also seems to be burdened with low courage and lacks assertiveness at times. "Spineless" one could say. When presented with any amount of opposition that cannot be overcome, Edd begins to get nervous or somewhat frustrated. Creepy mansions or other places that look too dangerous cause him to being seriously reconsidering what it is he plans on doing. Often when Eddy does need help, he will more or less strong arm Edd into doing it without so much as a complaint. How much of this is just Edd resigning to his fate or merely going along with the plan because he is easily bent is unknown. And when things go very, very wrong, Eddward begins to panic and too much excitement or movement makes him queasy. Even something as simple as an embarrassing yet harmless situation causes Edd's self esteem to dip as he grows bright red and begins to sweat with unease. The idea of romance unsettles him for this reason.
Other than these quirks, Edd has the mannerisms that are normal for his age, such as shyness towards girls and an inherent desire for varying forms of (safe) entertainment. Positive if a tad weird upbringing from his parents has cultured Edd to have a good moral fiber and a desire to instill such things into other people with great enthusiasm.
[Abilities]
Edd possesses nothing that could be considered superhuman. However, he does possess a very learned and keen mind even for his age. Other than his moral standards, Edd possesses wisdom beyond his years and is usually full of good advice. That said, he also very clearly has a genius level intellect beyond even most adults. Indeed there are more than a few hints that Edd isn't just gifted, he's quite well versed in multiple scientific fields for his age, such as biology (evidenced by his great understanding of the natural world and how it works, such as knowing the importance of fiber and his frequent studying of microorganisms), mathematics (as seen with his coordination of plans and precise construction of various inventions), geology and wildlife (knowing how rivers work and his constant escapades into the woods to capture insects and spiders) and even engineering (like above, inventions). He is also well read and is knowledgeable about the psychological aspects.
Perhaps his true skills shine with inventions. While they're all just cobbled together by hand-me-down kitchenware and cardboard, they actually seem to work far more often than not--and he can build them very quickly, at that, often having little more than a couple of hours or even a few minutes! Even the tools he uses--which are far beyond what a 12-year old should be capable of using, let alone being adept with--can be made out of anything he can find, such as small pieces of metal and pieces of wood or acorns. Such examples would be a fully functioning boat made with nothing but things found in the wild forests and the "Thingamajig", which appeared to be entirely capable of giving whatever object the owner wished for--even if they were bigger than the machine itself!
Edd: "Curse my affluent inventing..."

[First Person]
[Edd seems slightly nervous. Dressed in his usual attire of a red shirt, black hat and purple pants, a tie with polka dots on it seems like a clashing new addition.]
Good evening to you, too! My name is Eddward and I--
What do you want to do when you grow up?
Me? When I grow up? That's quite the inquisition, and a starting question at that. But since you've shown such interest in my own humble, youthful goals in life, I'd be happy to oblige. Now let's see--when I grow up, I want to--
What's your home life like?
--what? Pardon me for being so blunt, however I have not yet finished the other question! But if you insist. My home life is actually quite soothing. You see, I really enjoy the wonders of science and the apt writings of famed archeologists. To fit my inner thoughts and aspirations, I have since decorated my room with--
Do you have any hobbies?
[Edd begins to sweat.]
...Erm, yes, well, *ahem*.
[He begins to pull on his collar as if it the temperature was rising.]
As I've said, I enjoy studying the sciences and theories surrounding the natural world. Why, actually, you'd b-be surprised by how unique and carefully cultivated the universe really is when you--
Why are you so skittish?
E-excuse me?
[Edd gives the interviewer a questionable, sheepish look.]
Uhm, c-could you please ask that again?
Who is your best friend?
Oh dear. Uhm, e-excuse me, t-that's stuck between a rock and a hard pla--
Do you believe in magic? In a young girl's heart, I mean?
...Please pardon me, madam, I-I mean, sir! Oh sorry, I really wasn't trying to...make any bad, uhm...implications...
Now if you would just....excuse me...
[Face as red as a beet, Double D smiles sheepishly and quickly exits the room.]
How mortifying...
[Third Person]
The "dream world" they called it.
There was never a more appropriate word, Edd thought to himself as he emerged into the latest thought projection.
"...my, how...how..."
Eddward was weak in the knees. It wasn't from the fact that he was currently carrying a hefty bag for his size or because he hadn't eaten much recently. "...stupefying!"
Beyond the lens of his eyes, Eddward could see something that could only possibly exist in a dream--a completely alien world, similar yet so different from his, that was populated here and there by creatures that looked as though they had jumped from the pages of a famous novelist's epic fantasy. "Enrapturing! Why, this is so breathtaking I could almost--" Double D was interrupted by his bag suddenly overtaking him in weight and sent him toppling over onto his stomach, his body overcome by the mass of his bag. "--do'of!...Not exactly what I had in mind, but that was certainly close."
His eyebrow raised in an inquizzical way shortly before a small lizard crawled towards the front of his face. A lizard that, to Edd’s complete disbelief, had wings and he gasped. “Is...is that a dragon?” After inspecting Double D for a moment, the dragonlike lizard scampered away than hopped onto a small gale and soared off into the blue sky. After a shaky minute of righting himself standing, Edd quickly exhumed a pencil and a small notepad as he began to walk, briskly yet steadily, jotting down notes with the precision of a typewriter.
“Why, this is simply astounding! Modern theorists surrounding the speculations of people and the subconscious would collapse in on themselves with astonishment if they were ever to experience something like this!” A few more yards deeper into the forest, Edd had jotted down more than an essay’s worth of papers. Line by line, all perfect and neatly written that would be legible to anyone with a grasp of grammar could appreciate. “I simply must meet the one who dreamt this all up! I may have seen some crazy, outright physics defying things before, but this...this isn’t just a mere quark of the imagination. It could very well be a natural world in its own right!
“...Er, what’s that sound?”
While being lost in his own words tended to happen, Double D was far from inattentive to his surroundings (he was studying them, after all). While he was skittering here and there around the forest talking excitedly to himself, something moved in the branches high above his head. This sound was quickly replaced by a low buzzing noise. Much louder than any bird or bee, it suddenly hurried itself right in front of Double D’s face and there it was--a tried and true sprite, what they would call a “fae”.
“By Jove, even sentient life is here!..”
Its body was very recognizably humanoid. Minus a few colorful differences in detail, it was certainly sapient, if it was only about twice the size of a dry eraser. Green in quite a few places, the fae looked as though it grew out of the ground like a flower. With two black, alien-like eyes, it looked back at Double D with similar amazement. “Why, hello there, denizen!” He laughed a little as it landed on the tip of his pencil like it was a balancing beam. “Now if only Ed and Eddy could see you now...”
“Whatever. This place is for the birds.” Eddy would say.
“Gravy!” Ed would say.
Edd’s eyes narrowed with a deep seated frustration. “...on second thought, I think it best they never came here with me.”
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I have been searching around DW for a game that was fitting enough for Edd. I enjoy the character very much and I've known him the most, so I looked around and saw Somarium after hearing about it from a few friends. It looks like it could be really fun so I’m giving it my best!
